What You'll Use In Class
In our hair styling course, you’ll train with a range of professional, salon-quality tools and styling products, not a pre-selected kit. We teach you why a product or tool is used, not just how to use it, so you can make confident, informed choices as a working stylist.
You’ll learn to compare tools, test products, and select the right techniques and formulas for different hair types, textures, and occasions. This approach allows you to build your own professional kit with purpose, rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all kit.
Only with this approach will you graduate with the confidence to walk into any salon supply store or retail shop and know exactly what to invest in, why it works, and how to use it to create long-lasting, client-ready results.
Students are required to bring:

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an accredited qualification to work as a Hair Stylist in Australia?
No. You don’t need a nationally accredited qualification or apprenticeship to work as a hairstylist in Australia. Hairstyling and hairdressing are two separate industries. Hairstylists specialise in creating professional looks for weddings, events, and photoshoots — focusing on styling techniques such as curls, updos, and waves. Hairdressers, on the other hand, focus on cutting and colouring, which requires completing a nationally recognised qualification and on-site apprenticeship.
Our hairstyling course is designed purely for creative styling, not cutting or colouring, allowing you to start working quickly without the long commitment or cost of a full hairdressing apprenticeship. You’ll receive a Certificate of Attainment accepted for insurance, freelance, and bridal hairstyling work across Australia.
How long is the course and what days are offered?
Our Hair Styling Course runs for 8 face-to-face classes focused on bridal and special event long hair styling. You can choose between weekday, weekend, or express options to suit your schedule.
Who is this course suited for?
This course is designed for beginners to intermediate stylists who want to master professional hairstyling for weddings, special events, and editorials - whether you’re starting a freelance business or adding to your salon skills.
Do I need an advanced or second course after this?
No. This course is comprehensive and designed to get you client-ready from day one. You’ll learn all the core techniques to start charging for your work confidently. However we do provide optional advanced one on one sessions if required.
Do you offer a Hair & Makeup package?
We don’t bundle dates or pricing, as our Hair and Makeup courses run on different schedules. However, students who enrol in both courses at the same time receive a complimentary 1:1 business coaching call with Academy founder, Alondra Gatae.
What do I need to bring?
Students only need to bring a long hair mannequin head with a clamp, a curling wand, and a hair dryer, either from home or purchased from our professional range.
Final Assessment Model: To graduate with the technical confidence to style real clients, not just mannequins, students are required to provide two live models (friends, family, or sourced via social media) for their final assesment. This transition from mannequin to model is the most critical milestone in your professional training. We will send you all the details upon enrollment and you will have full educator support to help you navigate this process. Mastering this transition from mannequin to a real live person is designed to have you industry-ready and build your confidence with our support.
Do you include a kit?
No, and that’s deliberate. We believe stylists should learn using a variety of brands and tools, not a single pre-packed kit. This helps you understand how to select the right products for each client and style. While students are learning about how to choose the best products and tools for them, they get full access to our professional ranges in the classroom.
What hairstyles will I learn?
You’ll master everything from soft curls, textured updos, boho buns, vintage waves, and modern bridal looks, with step-by-step guidance to suit every hair type.
What class sizes do you run?
We keep classes small and personalised. Up to 7 students per teacher for maximum attention and support. For larger class sizes 2 qualified teachers will be available.
I’m not sure if I want to start a business - can I still take the course?
Yes. Many students join simply to learn hairstyling skills for themselves or pursue freelance work part-time. The business component is optional.
What’s the payment plan?
You can start with a $500 deposit, then choose how you’d like to pay the remaining balance.
Option 1: Split Payment Plan
Pay the remaining balance in two instalments, one on your first day of class and the second halfway through your course.
Option 2: Weekly Payments with Ezidebit
Prefer weekly payments? We can set you up with Ezidebit for simple, interest-free weekly instalments.
Do you provide work experience opportunities?
Yes. Students and graduates gain access to real-world work experience in bridal events, fashion shoots, and runway collaborations through our AHM Work Experience Program.
What is The Content Photoshoot Day and how will it help me as a student?
The Content Photoshoot Day is an exclusive professional photoshoot organised for our graduating students. We provide the professional models and photographer, and handle all the planning - you simply bring your artistry. It’s your opportunity to create high-quality, professional images that elevate your portfolio and social media presence. You’ll receive beautifully retouched photos of your work, ready to post online or showcase on your website. This experience helps you stand out, attract clients, and confidently launch your career as a professional hairstylist.
Do you accept international students?
Yes, international students are welcome. There are no restrictions or visa requirements for this short course.
Are there any age restrictions?
All ages are welcome, though the course is best suited for students aged 14 and over.
